Hi! I'm NeoSpearBlade. I was aware of the Dance Dance Revolution games but back then, I was too afraid to play it (even though I really wanted to) because I didn't want to have people watch me suck at it. StepMania changed all that. Now, I always have my USB device so that when I see an ITG2 machine*, I play it with my custom songs.....if the arcade managers have it turned on and the machine is not r23 but I digress.
I distinctly remember being introduced to StepMania back in high school on September 2007 when someone (I can't remember if it was a friend or another student) put it in the library's computer, which that in and of itself was incredible considering the librarian was OK with us browsing the web but put her foot down on installing/running other programs.
There were a few song packs (as much as you can fit inside a 500MB USB device, I think) but I remember 2 of them. The first pack I definitely remember seeing was Hopscotch Mix 2, the pack that introduced me to the concept of different kinds and types of songs for this game engine. The second one, I can't remember if it was either Jubo's Simfiles** or Otaku's Dream but I do know that it had a Bleach OP song, with a video that starts with a lion plushy singing.
As for my musical tastes, I pretty much like any song that I can follow the rhythm and/or is danceable. It's rare for me to find a song that I dislike or even hate.
I have contributed some stuff to the community, notably a few noteskins in the v.3.9+R format and some of them are still getting some use by but most of my contributions was just sharing my opinions about the game. All of it were in the old StepMania forums and I had over 1,000 posts over there. Some good, some bad but regardless, those were good times.
At the moment, I'm slowly getting back to StepMania. When I left on my 7 years+ hiatus, I downloaded a bunch of themes, noteskins, simfiles and other miscellaneous files. All in all, about 10-15GB. Now, I need to sort through them all and see what's good, what's bad. Plus, I need to get my hands on a version of Visual Studio that works to compile the v.3.9+R source code as the 2015 version gives me errors or am I missing something?.....
