Me and Houkounchi talked a little bit about this before and believe we decided that it wouldn't be that hard to implement, but users would have to upload files themselves. There are thousands of unique songs so this isn't ideal. It would be helpful to make a much larger number of people power users or have some automated way to promote people. Unfortunately there is bound to be malicious people that abuse the system and upload junk.

I still think it is a good idea though and this system would be great for single release files or even just downloading single files that you like out packs.

An expansion on this idea would be to add a tags column to the song in the database and be able to edit those tags to include things such as what packs it is in and the simfile artist. These tags could be used for the song search and would able to list an entire song pack.



On a related note I'd like to be able to upload songs to houkounchi.net and then write up an orginized download page from the main site and link to them there. Probably just for the most popular stuff so people have something to get started with and be able to play online.

Would also be a good place to link to client downloads too.

This seems like a really nice idea! It would definitely be useful to those who are seeing some interesting single release files, or don't have many songs to play with others online.

Also, tagging files to show which pack(s) they came from will make it a lot easier for players to be able to locate and download them efficiently. Aside from malicious intentions, this actually seems like it could be a real plus for the site. I suppose though that if power users were only granted this permission (perhaps after posting in the forums as well) it would really cut down the likelihood of something stupid happening. Perhaps the site could keep a log of files that are uploaded by various users, and if anything seems out of the ordinary, they could be downloaded and tested. Or perhaps when someone downloads a file when logged in, they could tell the server whether or not it was the file they wanted. Then if someone says it isn't, it could be inspected.

Anyway, I really like this idea, and can't wait until it's implemented.

How do you become a power user anyways? I'm one, and have no idea. O_o
Anyways, I like this idea for single releases, but having songs from packs as singles would be quite a nuisance since people usually play more than one a song from a pack. Though, that's my personal opinion.

The only way I can see this working would be to show which pack the song is in, then link to the pack.

While that will not work for all songs, it would work for most. It would also make it easier to auto generate the links for each song.
