Hey guys,
I recently started playing again and I like it a lot so far.
Now I configured my Stepmania for HOURS to my liking. And I'm almost there.
But 1 major problem can't seem to get fixed by myself. I noticed I always had very bad timing at the resulting scores and I couldn't figure out why.
Now many of you might say 'Well, keep playing it'll come" or "then you're bad". Thing is, I know that my MA can be a lot better, I know that I press the keys correctly and
the keyboard is definitely not the problem. I played around with my offset for a long long time now, set it some ms higher, some ms lower. I changed my graphic settings (VSync is obv off at all times), I had every CMOD digit ranging from 720 to 770 (yeah, 50 different cmods...) and the closest to being decent is 732 so far. Now since I just joined SMO again yesterday someone told me about some cool new features which I really dig a lot ! One of them being the "/showoffset" thingy. I noticed too, that every time I play it tells me a offset difference of AT LEAST 2.xxx ms. Which is HUUUGE... But every time I try to fix it (lets say my ms is .000000s and it says offset: -2.53ms I change my offset to .000253s) it doesn't seem to change anything at all. Funny thing is, it tells me different stuff after every song. Even after I fixed my Offset, it keeps telling me like -2.5 or +3.4 etc.
I tried to fix it myself and I couldn't.. Now I need your help. Really !
Thanks a whole lot in advance,
Pluri

Re: Massive problem with MA (Offset? CMOD?)
Keep in mind that different songs are not always synced perfectly. Some songs I will get -7ms offset and other with be +2. I would recommend playing a song you KNOW is pretty on sync, and keep playing that and adjusting your offset accordingly.
Also, what sm version are you using? Are you on windows? d3d or opengl? did you try playing with vsync on?

Try Stepmania 5.
You can change direct 3d and opengl in the ini file on 3.95 though.

Re: Massive problem with MA (Offset? CMOD?)
Fixed it ! Thanks
I just changed it to opengl (it said "d3d,opengl"), changed cmod to 730, offset to 0.000994, changed keybindings and raged once or twice... worked apparently:

Thanks a lot for your help man ! Appreciate it !

Re: Massive problem with MA (Offset? CMOD?)
maybe this is the reason im not AAAAing songs...its all about offset lolZ
Re: Massive problem with MA (Offset? CMOD?)
You can also type /showoffset on smo to have it tell you how far off from perfect you are. You can adjust your global offset if you see some kind of average difference from 0.000.
