Musicpacks for Dance Mats with all difficults?

Hey,

I'm new here and to Stepmania but with a little knowledge from osu! so I know what's todo with this game but what I don't understand is the provided information for the song packs.
What does the words "keyboard, pad, ..." mean? Are they all not for the Dance Mats which can be bought overall the world?

Secound one is, that many song packs only have one or two diff's - sorry, but each song should have all diff's included.

E. g. the Song Pack "012s Easy Pakcage" ... all songs are only at a to hard diff but the packs name introduces to be a song pack with songs desinged for beginners/easy ones
but not for challenge or smth. harder. SO the packages name can' be "012s Easy Pakcage", it should be called "012s Challenger's Pakcage" or smth. similar.

It will be nice if anybody can help me to find the correct desinged package with songs for all diff's or minimum with included first three diff's (more are welcome, but first three
diff's should be available over all, I think).

Prefered songs are nightcores, pika girl, bad apple (also different versions), bad romance (original/offical one) and much more (techno/trance/...).

Hope that there can be a soulution found ;).

Greatings

StepMania is merely a rhythm game software that -can- be used to simulate dancing games. This means there's no reason for some files to go beyond the intention of being danced on. The simfiles (playable songs) can be anything the creator wants it to be. Many simfiles for StepMania are specifically designed to be played on a keyboard, featuring patterns that are generally considered inappropriate/impossible for playing with a dance pad. This is why the packs have been labeled 'pad' and 'keyboard' (or 'hybrid' when there are both pad and KB files mixed in the pack).

Thus, if you intend to play StepMania with your feet, you are to look for the packs that have been labeled with 'pad'. From what I understood, majority of the playable songs (beatmaps?) on Osu! go through some kind of central system and are therefore subject to more 'quality control'. In StepMania's case, the simfiles are provided directly by the creators and therefore the contents of the simfile can vary greatly. There isn't really much of a norm to go by when it comes to the amount of difficulties included for a simfile. It's all up to the person creating the simfile.

Assuming you play StepMania with your feet, I would recommend the packs created by Gpop. I dig them a lot personally and they feature a full set of difficulties for pretty much all songs. Some of the songs might appeal to you judging from your preferences (I could be completely wrong though :P ). Some examples:
GPOoPS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Juv7Gl7CMhA
東方歩狂騒 (Touhou Hokyouso) ~ Lunatic Dance Floor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHmMCpfBllA
東方魔法踊 (Touhou Mahouyou) ~ Magical Dance Phantasm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eA86XrDQPQM
東方幻想踊 (Touhou Gensouyou) ~ Illusionary Dance Fantasy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnnqwKSUtos

It might also be of interest to try out some of the songs from official dance games, you can get simfiles of the official DDR songs from zIV for example: http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/simfi ... y=simfiles

Hope this helps you along the way!

Hello Thumbsy,

thanks for your replay, it helps me alot.

I looked at the YT-Links and yeah, they are okay, well they are not rly Nightcore's but nvm ^^. Now I only missing some normal maps like original rock/pop/dance/trance/... but should be not the problem, shouldn't it?

Ok, have actually to wait for the pad ... if it's here, I'll response again if all is fine :).

Oh, one question ... are all maps compatible with the latest version of SM5 (alpha/beta/final/...) or will there come such many changes, so that maps are been broken?

Yeah it's not quite nightcore, but there's a couple of hardcore songs in there that I figured might somewhat appeal to you since you mentioned Pika Girl as well ^^;;

Ah another note, playable songs for StepMania are not referred to as 'maps'. Generally, the files that make up a playable SM song are referred to as 'simfiles'. The collection of notes/steps belonging to one difficulty are referred to as a '(step)chart'. It's not really that important since everyone will know what you mean anyways, but I figured it'd be good to emphasize this :3

As far as I'm aware, any file with the .sm extension should be compatible with the latest SM5 version. Depending on what version the .sm file was generated with and/or what software it's aimed at, there may be some specific features or extras present in the simfile that might not work in SM5. The core functionality should work though in nearly all cases. You should rarely have to worry about compatibility unless the creator has explicitly stated that the simfile was designed for use with a specific software (that is not SM5).

Excited for your soon(?)-to-arrive pad, hope the packs I suggested suit you ;)
