Help with Stepmania

First of all, I don't know if this is the right place to post this, if it isn't, apologies.

I play Stepmania for around 5 years (with lots and some huge breaks, but I'm counting since the first time I started playing).
During that time, I would play more casually, without caring much with score and stuff, but now, I want to get off that "casual zone".
So, after watching some gameplay videos and tutorials, I'm a little confused with Index, Solo and etc...
I always played with the arrows, but I can't press at four at the same time so I started with AS-KL recently.
Which is the best way to play? Should I keep using arrows or should I get used with AS-KL?

As for getting better; it just take practice in your preferred style of play.

Use whatever you feel comfortable with. I'd recommend trying out different styles/keys and see what you like best.
