Just to clarify, if I have the .rar downloaded and extracted into my songs, will I need to redownload/extract the .zip to play with those who got the .zip? Thanks in advance.

You're fine! The packs are the exact same, they are just stored in a different format. If you already extracted the .rar, you don't need to re-download it as a .zip. The only thing this breaks is offsite links people may have posted to the SMO mirrors, which this is addressing.

Well, this is nice! those that don't have winrar and can't afford it will now be able to play these packs once someone uploads the original!

Although, I never thought that some DDR packs were .rar formatted.
