Now that I have coding experience I have been looking into making themes but I really haven't able to find a good guide anywhere on the process of making one.
I know some people say "Find a good theme and change the images" but that isn't at all what I want to do.
Is there a good guide someone can link me to?

You should make an SMO.net theme with a black and white color scheme.
