Some songs have their time length wrong when selected on stepmania online, like these:

They aren't the only ones.
What's that related to? Is it because shorter versions of the song have been played before, or is it picking up another version of the song instead of that one?

I don't think these values ever get updated. I'm pretty sure it is caused from the first time the song was ever played and possibly a result of the person exiting the file early.

The server sets a stopwatch which records the duration of the song. This is why they are always off a lil bit. But I think it gets updated every song play, thought we changed that so it was NOT just the first time the song was played.
