Cannot Export Packages in SM5 beta 2a, can anyone help?

Postby C-Bass » Mon Jan 20, 2014 5:57 pm

Hello, I'm new to StepMania (haven't played DDR in about 8 years). I've managed to figure out a great amount about StepMania, but for the life of me, I can't find a solution/help online so far for this problem. I've created several step-charts, and I'm eager to convert them to smzip files (and yes, I've downloaded and tried 3.9, but I can't get any video files to work, whereas in SM5, it hasn't been a problem. Maybe for another thread?).

Any advise would be greatly appreciated, and sorry in advance if I'm a bit slow to pick up some of the more advanced jargon. Thanks.

Is there any particular reason why you specifically want to use .smzip to share your step files? I personally find .smzip files pretty annoying, because instead of extracting step files to the songs folder, they create a secondary location for the files that is pretty out of the way (can't remember it offhand).

It might be better if you just go to where your step files are located, and then put them into a zip file. You could put them either into individual zip files, or put all of your songs into a pack folder and release a mini pack of your step files. This is basically what smzip does, except without having to go through the wizards and strange placement of imported files as an end user. If you are unaware of how to do this, I could write down the steps, it's pretty simple to get the hang of.

Thanks for a quick response. I know how to make .zip files, I just was under the impression that it had to be a .smzip file. I'm about a half week into tinkering with StepMania.

If I make a .zip file of a song folder from 3.9, can I copy it it as it is (step-chart and whatnot) to SM5 (and vice versa). I've already created a few songs in both programs, but I'd like to be able to transfer them all to one version of StepMania (if possible).

Yes, you can share files in any way that you like. As long as the data gets from one song folder to the other it will work if the folder structure is correct. There isn't anything necessary about the .smzip format.

Stepmania / Songs / Pack /File / song.mp3

If that makes sense.
